RE: Opinions please........

Hi: This is the kind of dealer I like to do business with. Running the type RV business he describes is expensive and therefore must produce the revenue necessary to stay in business. This means his prices are not going to be rock bottom. He seems to be a dealer who is honest, reliable and will go out of his way to see that your equipment is properly taken care of. Since you are new to Rving let me say an honest, reliable dealership is one of your most important and best assets. Bill

RE: WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONLINE OUT Of STATE

Hi: I buy locally and out of state often and there are only a couple considerations as to who gets what:
1. Who can supply what I need in the time frame I need it?
2, Who has the best price? The business is not rv related, however.
Buying locally obviously helps the local economy, which logically could come into play in some instances.

RE: Towing OVER capacity..... too many doing this....

Hi: I've seen the tail wagging the dog any number of times but I don't feel any obligation to educate the people I see in this situation. If they were smart or cared at all, they would find out all they could about their rigs and how to use them. The economics of reparing the rig will eventually take care of the education. However, there's a huge number of people out there who know a lot about their rigs and it is much more engaging and interesting to visit with them. Bill

RE: Jiffy Lube Jerks Just Changed My Oil

Hi: Yep, a few years back they dead centered my rear bumper on a steel pole and had to replace it. After that I gave my truck a perk and stayed away from the jiffy lube jerks. When I need something, I now go to the dealership. Bill

RE: 30 amp is equal to ???

HI:You can buy a 220 volt to 110 volt adapter. I bought one yesterday when I ran into a 220 volt situation and needed to hook up. Camping World or any good RV store probably has one. One side of the plug is just a dummy so as to give you 110 volts at 50 amps. Plug it into the 220 and your 30 amp plug into the other side and you are in business. Use a heavy, commercial type extension cord. Bill

RE: Washing your rig before a trip??

HI: I wash mine when it needs it. My gutters have end pieces which prevent crud from running down the side of the trailer. There's no good reason why all mfgs shouldn't install them on their trailers. I have seen them offered after market but I can't remember where. Bill

RE: Forums vs. Blogs...

Hi: I enjoy both but am more interested in the Q&As of the forum because they reflect the concerns of RVers. The forum also presents an opportunity to exchange ideas with some very nice and interesting people, many of whom have considerable knowledge and expertise in any given field of interest. Bill

RE: Tires, For a Fifth Wheel What Would You Buy

Hi: I would buy the tire that is rated to carry the load I intended to put on it. I buy hundreds of tires every year for a fleet that includes everything from automobiles to heavy construction equipment. My favorite brands for cars, light, medium and heavy trucks are Goodyear, Firestone and Bridgestone with no particular preference. They all perform well. Buy a cheap tire and you get a poor performance. For any given brand you can find people who love it and people who hate it since tires are a highly subjective purchase in many if not most cases. Maxxis also has a good reputation but I have had no experience with them. If you want to read some very fine discussions on the different aspect of tires go to www.tirerack.com. If you have a propensity to read for accurate information you will find it there. Good Luck Bill

RE: Rving- Financial Aspects and Worries.

Hi: I know people who are upside down on their loans and wish they had made better decisions. Look at the housing market. A lot of people should have known they were buying more than they could afford. Apparently they didn't or perhaps they knew and just didn't care. I think the same would apply to RVs but I also believe there are a lot more responsible people living this life style than there are those who are not. Bill

RE: Gen Costs boondocking, WM Cracker Barrel, Etc

Larry: I think you have received the info you sought about propane, gensets etc. I just want to add it is not considered good practice to use either Wal-Mart or Cracker Barrel in the way you described. If you stay over at either place, arrive late and be gone just after daylight. Bill

RE: Your thoughts on installing a hitch on the back of your TT?

Hi: It is not illegal in Oklahoma either. We go by overall length as to what you can tow. It is a very bad idea in my opinion in that it could upset your hitch weight and cause sway. It is also true that most trailer bumpers if not all are not strong enough to handle it over the long haul. Bill

RE: Have you run your own business?

Hi: Sea Dog puts it very well. When you run your own business and have other peoples' welfare depending upon your success, it is an awesome responsibility. In my opinion, most people, by and large, seem to want life to take the path of lease resistance and therefore don't have a clue as to what it takes to satisfy their unthinking wants. Bill

RE: The Economy and New purchase prices

Hi: I'm of the opinion it depends upon each individual dealer's needs. Some need to get rid of inventory, others don't. Some have a larger potential market, better locations and so on. You may have noticed there has already been at least one mfg. close its doors in the past few days. I would expect the small trailer market to increase rapidly and larger units sales to decline given the current situation. Downsizing and fewer hours on the road seem to be the trend at the moment. RE: Anybody Canceling Trips Because Of Fuel Prices?

Hi: Our approach to the problem has been more towards decisions that allow the trips to go forward but with different options and equipment. A few years back, we bought a smaller TT, which is much more economical to pull. We are also considering pulling it with an auto instead of the truck. However, I wouldn't give up the larger one. You never know what might happen and there are times when you want more rving, with all the gadgets and less of a camping situation. Bill

Hi Our local hospital is regional in nature and maintains RV slots with hookups at no cost to the families of patients who are hospitalized. It is a very real benefit to many. Bill
